Weingut-Genießerzimmer Bohrn

Introduction

The Bohrn winery is located in the north-eastern Weinviertel and is now in its fifth generation. Our vineyards are lovingly tended and cared for all year round using natural cultivation methods. The grapes for our excellent wines come from the southernmost slopes and are carefully pressed at optimum ripeness and vinified with great sensitivity, with white wine accounting for almost 70% of the total, with Grüner Veltliner being the most important variety.

Wine and tourism are closely linked in Austria. The country is known for its wine-growing regions and the activities associated with them.  The benefits of wine and tourism are manifold. Wine tours offer an excellent opportunity to learn about the culture and history of the wine regions while tasting the best wines. They can also help to support the local economy and create jobs in the region. In addition, wine tours can also help to raise awareness of sustainable viticulture and environmental protection. Winegrowers and winemakers can also use tourism to better market their products and services and raise their profile. In short, wine and tourism are a perfect combination that benefits both wine lovers and the local economy, and tourism also offers farmers an opportunity to generate additional income. For example, farmers can sell their products directly to tourists or offer accommodation on their farm. Another option is for farmers to rent out their farms for events such as weddings, birthdays or company parties. In addition, farmers can also offer guided tours of their farms to give tourists an insight into life in the countryside. These activities can help to support the local economy and create jobs in the region.

The combination of farm and tourism, often referred to as “farm vacations”, offers many advantages: Insight into life and work in agriculture: guests gain an insight into life and work in agriculture.  Accommodation for guests means additional income. Experiences close to nature and relaxation: A family vacation on a farm offers the unique opportunity to experience nature up close. Tourist rentals allow resources to be used more efficiently. These benefits show that the combination of farm and tourism creates a win-win situation for all involved. It provides farms with an additional source of income and guests with a unique vacation experience. Being constantly available on a family farm can have some disadvantages: Constant availability makes it difficult and sometimes impossible to recover from work. This can put a strain on the whole family.  Constant availability can affect the work-life balance and lead to a mixture of professional and private life. It is important that family businesses develop strategies to overcome these challenges. These include clear communication guidelines, setting ‘unavailable hours’ and promoting a healthy work-life balance. It is also important that all family members and employees are involved in the development and implementation of these strategies.

Adding value to their own products offers companies several advantages. Creating their own added value creates profit and productivity potential. The creation of new jobs and positive side effects such as more citizen participation or increased environmental protection also increase regional added value. Companies can use the concept of added value to identify their own generated market value. Running a hotel as a family business with a 7-day week can be an enormous burden. The following steps can help to make everyday working life easier: Shift arrangements and clear work schedules can help to organise working hours fairly. Sharing responsibilities between family members is just as important. Everyone should have clear responsibilities in order to work efficiently. Use technology to automate processes, e.g. for bookings or guest communication. This can reduce the workload and allow manual tasks to be minimised. A good balance between work and rest periods is important to remain efficient in the long term. Clear communication with guests ensures that they are informed about working hours and procedures so that realistic expectations can be set. Evaluation of work processes and times is important. Identify areas that can be improved and be prepared to make adjustments. The hospitality industry is demanding, but implementing efficient strategies and creating a balanced work environment can help reduce stress. It’s also important to realise that the health and wellbeing of both the team and family should be a top priority. Getting to know interesting guests in a hotel offers numerous benefits, both for the hotel itself and for the employees’ personal experience. Interesting guests can come from different industries and backgrounds. This provides the opportunity to make valuable contacts, be it for future business opportunities, co-operations or simply for an extended network. Interesting guests can bring diverse perspectives, ideas and stories. Interacting with them can be inspiring and provide new food for thought for your own business or personal development, and when guests have a good experience at a hotel, they tend to talk about it. Interesting guests could have an even wider reach due to their social influence or familiarity, leading to positive word of mouth for the hotel. Meeting interesting people can enrich the hotel environment and help to create a positive and welcoming ambience. It is important to capitalise on such encounters to build a lasting connection and make the most of these experiences.

The idea of focusing on holiday flats could be a good way to create a clearer boundary between work and private life. With holiday flats, you can make check-in and check-out times more flexible. This means less stress of always being at the hotel early in the morning to receive or say goodbye to guests. Compared to a hotel, holiday flats often require less daily attention. Guests can take on more responsibility and there may be less need for constant availability on site. By focusing on holiday homes, you can better separate areas for work and personal life. This could help to reduce stress and achieve a better work-life balance. With holiday flats, you can automate certain aspects of management, such as key handovers via locking systems or guest communication via platforms. This could save time and reduce the need for a constant physical presence. The quality of a hotel and its experience factor are decisive factors in attracting and retaining guests. Excellent service is essential. Friendly and well-trained staff who cater to guests’ needs are of great importance. This includes both reception and service during the stay. Clean and comfortable rooms and communal areas are essential. Guests expect appropriate facilities, comfortable beds and a welcoming atmosphere. A hotel can set itself apart from others through its uniqueness and atmosphere. Be it through an appealing design, a special interior design, special architectural features or cultural elements. Good food and drink are an essential part of a great hotel stay. Whether it’s an in-house restaurant, breakfast buffet or room service, the quality of the food and drink plays a major role. Offering special experiences or activities that make the stay unforgettable. These can be guided tours, wellness offers, cookery courses, cultural events or other unique experiences.
