This guideline is about defining hospitality in general and how it can be achieved in order to have guest’s satisfaction in agritourism.
‘’Hospitality means extending a welcome to travellers or offering a home away from home, and the word is derived from the Latin word “hospes” meaning visitor or stranger. Hospitality indicates the attitude of a host towards the guest; communicating, servicing and accepting guests by the host’’. It is important to mention that hospitality in different cultures has different categories. Hospitality may imply, in some cultures, welcoming, greeting and a smile to any guest or unknown to others, while in other cultures a guest is treated as a family member and is introduced into the intimacy of home’’.
Hospitality is imperative in the tourism industry and especially in Agritourism. Below are some guidelines for improving hospitality in Agritourism.

In 1992, Costas took the decision to work with agri tourism at the same time with his agricultural occupations for an extra source of income to support his family. That decision was finally proven to be the right one. He renovated an inherited traditional family house in the village of Lofou and he transformed it into a beautiful traditional tavern and studios “. The hotel unit provides accommodation, cafeteria and the traditional tavern. In our well known traditional Lofou Tavern the centre of the hotel unit, offer breakfast, lunch and supper in a wide variety of food and dishes. The vegetables and the fruits are always fresh from our production. The Tavern offers traditional food and a wide variety of local wines. And when the mood is high the owner Mr. Costas plays the Bouzouki (instrument) and sings with visitors. The whole family works in the unit offering the best hospitality to the guests.
In January 2023, Mr. Costas Violaris was awarded from the Deputy Ministry of Tourism in the Cyprus Hospitality Awards as the Agrotourism establishment with the best online reputation from the guest’s reviews.

The Farms’ Charm project aims to develop learning materials to educate small and medium-sized farmers in possible ways of starting their agritourism activities which will help them not only diversify their incomes but also promote their farm products directly to consumers. All that while reviving the rural areas and local communities and promoting a sustainable way of tourism which is in line with the tendencies of slowing down and staying longer at one area.
